WEST ESSEX, NJ - Area residents are reminded to help out local fire departments by keeping snow and ice away from their nearest fire hydrant. Having to find a buried fire hydrant costs firefighters precious time when they are arriving to help local homeowners and businesses extinguish a fire.

With more snow predicted in the next week it is necessary to keep road widths wide throughout all of our towns. The Department of Public Works' employees have been working tirelessly for weeks now in an effort to keep roadways safe and in anticipation of more snow will continue to do so.

If by chance the hydrant near your home or business is covered with snow from a plow or storm, make sure to uncover it again as soon as possible. It’s important we all work together to keep our roadways and structures safe.
