5th Annual Turkey Trot To Support Elijah’s Promise Soup Kitchen

NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. – Elijah’s Promise invites the community to take a walk in the park for its fifth annual 3K Turkey Trot fundraiser in Buccleuch Park, Sunday, November 3. Walkers of all ages and abilities are invited to participate in this family-friendly event as teams or individuals. Leashed pets and strollers are welcome.
Registration begins at 1 p.m. and the walk will start at 2 p.m., led by the Elijah’s Promise Turkey. There is no fee to register, but walkers are encouraged to raise funds and bring donations to the event.
The Turkey Trot will feature an appearance by Tracy Brown, known as the “Reading Fairy; live music by CTP Band, arts and crafts for kids, and tasting stations along the route with food prepared by the Promise Culinary School.
The event raises funds for the Elijah’s Promise soup kitchen, which serves more than 100,000 free meals annually to homeless and low-income individuals. The 2011 Turkey Trot drew more than 500 walkers and raised over $30,000. Last year’s event was cancelled due to Superstorm Sandy, so hopes are high for a successful turnout this year.
Since 1989, Elijah’s Promise has harnessed the power of food to break the cycle of poverty, alleviate hunger, and change lives for the most vulnerable members of the Central New Jersey community. The nonprofit organization operates a soup kitchen, Promise Culinary School, catering business, A Better World Café, and the Shiloh Community Garden. It also offers community cooking classes and connects low-income individuals and families with social and health services With the support of volunteers, donors, and community partners, Elijah’s Promise serves meals to the area’s hungry residents and trains previously unskilled workers for careers in the food services industry.
