SPARTA, NJ - It was a picture perfect day for the 39th annual Sparta Day organized by the Junior Women's Club of Sparta. Community groups, attractions and vendors took over Station Park on Saturday.

There was a steady parade of people walking among the booths; babies in strollers, children pulling parents by the hand and kids of all ages enjoying the day. There were approximately 120 vendors along with several sponsors of the event. Eastern Propane was a Platinum sponsor. First Hope Bank and Kiddie Academy were Silver sponsors.

The Sparta Fire Department and Ambulance Squad had vehicles at the entrance, delighting young and not-so young alike. At the other end of the park, the Sussex County Education Association sponsored a mobile New Jersey Hall of Fame highlighting New Jersey natives who have had a positive impact on the country.

Throughout the park there were local vendors, various carnival type games and a few places to get your face painted. Castle Cove had a mini-golf putting green, Scout troop 269 had a tight rope to walk across, and, of course, there was food. Organizations such as UNICO, Football Boosters sold fair favorites funnel cakes, hamburgers and shaved ices, among other items.

Additional sponsors:

Skyland's Ice World sponsored a Beverage Cart,

Newton Medical Center was a Visual Promotions sponsor,

Realty Executives were a T-Shirt sponsor,

Lake Mohawk Pool sponsored the tote bag,

Inflatable slide was sponsored by Wellness Center Pediatrics,

Lake Mohawk Country Club sponsored the bounce house.

Many of the youngsters had fun in the photo booth provided by Rokstar.

Aiskae Driving School and Parisi Speed School provided the DJ Music.  The DJs also announced the winners of the Silent Auction items throughout the day.

Proceeds from the day go, in part, to provide scholarships to local high school students.  Six  $500 scholarship winners were recently announced.  The recipients are young women for the high schools in Sparta and the surrounding areas who are involved in community service.    This year's six winners are Ashley Darnsteadt, Julia Keenan, Megan Lepore, and Lauren Waselik from Sparta High School and Caitlyn Burnner and Tiana Grehanov from Sussex County Technical School.

"Additional proceeds go to numerous local and national non-profit organizations.  Of course, this includes our local ambulance squad, fire department and library among others," said Jennifer Carlson, second vice president of the Junior Women's Club of Sparta.  "It was a beautiful day."
