2012 Annual Luminary Sale
Friday, December 7, 2012 • 8:06pm
The annual Fanwood-Scotch Plains Rotary Club Luminary Sale starts on Saturday 12/8 at 9am. Residents across Union County are invited to visit the Fanwood Public Works garage to purchase the luminaries – paper bags with candles inside – that are used to illuminate streets and sidewalks on Christmas Eve.
As in previous years, the luminary kits cost 50 cents apiece in quantities of 50 or more, and 60 cents per kit for smaller quantities. The kits include a candle and paper bag for casting a holiday glow. Sand to ballast the bags is available at the Fanwood garage, with help from local members of the Boy Scouts of America to make it easy to load the sand. Some neighborhoods in the area get together and buy hundreds of kits to ensure effective luminary coverage.
Michael Dietrich, President of the Rotary Club, indicated that last year’s sale was a great success and added “we’ve expanded our supplies and expect to meet any quantities that the communities require." All proceeds will go to charities supported by the Club.
This year, Santa will be making a special appearance at the Luminary Sale on 12/22 from 11am-1pm! The Rotary Club will also be collecting canned food for their Holiday Food Drive to support local food pantries.
The sale dates are: 12/8, 12/15, 12/16, 12/22, 12/23 from 9am-3pm and 12/24 from 9am to 12noon.
The Fanwood Public Works garage is located on Manfra Way, which is off of North Avenue, across from the Fanwood Public Library. If using a GPS, set it to "Fanwood Place" or "Manfra Way" in Fanwood.
The Rotary Club of Fanwood-Scotch Plains meets weekly for lunch on Wednesdays, at 12:15 p.m., at the Stage House Restaurant in Scotch Plains. Guests are welcome and are encouraged to contact Ana Diaz at membership@fsprotary.org.
