By The Adult School of the Chathams, Madison and Florham Park
11/6/2009

The Adult School of the Chathams, Madison and Florham Park is offering several new classes starting in December. The following one-session classes can help with Holiday gift preparations or just provide a relaxing break during a busy season.

Rhinestone Art - Make great gifts and revamp old clothing and accessories. Learn the decoration principles and design process of rhinestone art. When the class is over, take home a DIY kit to continue your designs. Instructor, Soma Das, is the founder of www.rhinestone-expressions.com. This one-session class will be held at the Ridgedale Middle School, 71 Ridgedale Avenue, Florham Park on Wednesday, Dec. 2nd from 7:00 to 9:30 pm. Cost is $30.00 plus a $10.00 registration fee.

Understanding Your Sewing Machine - Did you just get a new sewing machine or have one in the closet gathering dust? Why spend the money to buy so many things that you can make yourself. Bring your machine to class and if you have the manual, please bring it along. Experienced sewing instructor, Virginia Wentworth, will show students basic operating techniques and answer any questions you have about your machine. You will go home with a simple project made in class. This class sold out in September and another session is being offered on Wednesday, December 2nd from 7:00 to 9:00 pm at the Ridgedale Middle School, 71 Ridgedale Avenue, Florham Park. Cost is $20.00 plus a $10.00 registration fee.

Salt Technique For A Painted Silk Scarf - Learn to create vibrant watercolors on silk using sea salt and traditional silk dyes. The end result is a silk scarf that is not only beautiful but also easy to make. A great holiday gift idea. Materials will be purchased from the instructor for a fee of $20 - $30. Instructor, Venera Hoerrmann, is a professional artist. Class will be held at the Ridgedale Middle School, 71 Ridgedale Avenue in Florham Park on Thursday, December 3rd from 6:00 to 9:00 pm. Cost is $40.00 plus a $10.00 registration fee.

Holiday Gingerbread Houses - For students of all ages! Bake gingerbread cookies to snack on while creating a beautiful, delicious gingerbread house for the holiday season. Kids must be accompanied by an adult to help them build their house; there will be one gingerbread house provided for these teams of two. Adults not accompanied by children can make their own house. Instructor, Brenda Varga, is a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America. Class will be held on Saturday, December 12th from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm at Brighton Gardens, 21 Ridgedale Avenue, Florham Park. Cost is $60.00 plus a $10.00 registration fee.

French Dinner at Resto in Madison - Paris has come to Madison at Resto, a bistro restaurant offering contemporary French cuisine. On Tuesday, December 8th the Adult School in cooperation with Gourmet Getaways is offering a unique French dining experience. The menu, featuring the cuisine of the Alsace/Lorraine region, will include Tarte Flambe with bacon, carmelized onions and crème fraiche; Choucroute Garni (salt pork, bacon, garlic sausage, duck confit, sauerkraut and potatoes), and Mirabelle plum sorbet. In addition to preparation information, Chef Robert will share healthy eating considerations, earning this class an endorsement by the Madison Mayor’s Wellness Campaign. Seating time is 6:30 pm. If desired, bring your own bottle of French wine. Resto is located at 77 Main Street, Madison. Cost is $60.00 per person plus a $10.00 registration fee.

Advance registration and tuition payment is required. Easy and secure registration is available at www.theadultschool.org or by calling the office at 973-443-9222. Register for more than one class at the same time and pay only one $10.00 registration fee.

The Adult School, founded in 1937, is an independent, nonprofit organization. The school is not funded by government or local school districts, and welcomes students from all communities.
