Blankets of Love
By Temple Emanu-El of Westfield
11/4/2009

Several members of Temple Emanu-El of Westfield’s Blankets of Love met with Edna McClure, Assistant Director of Camp Happy Times, to donate their handmade blankets which were put to excellent use when Camp Happy Times convened for its annual camp experience.

Camp Happy Times is a free one-week overnight camp for children who have, or have had, cancer. Each August, 200 campers from the tri-state area, along with over 100 counselors and a full medical staff, spend a week at Tyler Hill Camp in Pennsylvania. They enjoy a multitude of camp activities as well as the opportunity to put aside some of the issues they deal with on a daily basis coping with cancer.

Blankets of Love, a group of Temple Emanu-El congregants, knits and crochets blankets and donates them to worthy causes. The group meets monthly at Temple to knit and crochet and enjoy their friendships. Each crafter makes their own blankets in the patterns and colors of their own choice. The minimum blankets size is 4’ x 6’ and must be made from new, washable yarn except wool. Most recently the crafters have also embarked on several group projects in which they make 12" squares and assemble them into blankets.

For information about Blankets of Love, contact Carolyn Shane, Executive Director, at 908-232-6770, ext. 114, cshane@tewnj.org, or visit our website at www.tewnj.org.

Temple Emanu-El is located at 756 East Broad Street, Westfield.
