Ladies Night Fundraiser at Summit Family Aquatic Center
By Summit Department of Community Programs
7/29/2010

What woman wouldn’t enjoy swimming under the stars in a child free pool? How about a chair massage? Learn to play Mah Johngg or do Tai Chi. All that and more is in store for woman who attend the 1st Ladies Night Benefit at the Summit Family Aquatic Center on Friday, August 6, 2010. Ladies’ Night benefits the TryCAN Programs for Children with Special Needs. TryCAN is the Parent’s Organization formed by the communities of Berkeley Heights, New Providence and Summit. This collaboration offers programs for children with special needs. By offering these programs, each community can host a program, field teams and join forces to present a comprehensive program of recreation offerings for children with special needs.

Tickets to this "ladies only" event are $25 at the door. Sample delicious finger foods from local restaurants including Zappias; while enjoying a swim under the stars. Learn to swim with instructors from the Summit Area YMCA. Try some AquaCise with instructors from The Connection. Chair messages, vendors and artists will all be there to help with this great cause. Door prizes and fund are in store for all who attend. The event will run from 8PM – 10PM. In the event of rain, the event will be held on Friday, August 13th.

Chair messages will be provided by Terra Sky and The Summit Seniors will teach Maj Johngg. Enjoy music and sisterhood while raising money for a worthwhile cause.

TryCAN’s primary responsibility is to train Teen Mentors to assist in special needs recreation programs in the three communities and beyond. Mentors are now being placed in local recreation departments and agencies to allow for complete inclusion of special needs children into community based activities. The trained Teen Mentors develop a greater understanding of individuals with special needs while earning community service credits. Many of the Teen Mentors have grown so through the program that they are now considering careers in social services, teaching and therapy.

Help to keep this program thriving as they grow with each passing season. Purchase a ticket, make a donation and come and enjoy the "City’s Hottest Place to Cool Off!" the Summit Family Aquatic Center. For details or ticket information call 908-277-2932 Summit Community Programs.
