Two members of the Union County College Board of Governors recently received outstanding accolades for their volunteer services, Police Chief Eric G. Mason of Cranford and Mary M. Zimmermann of Summit.
Chief Mason was recently installed as the President of the New Jersey State Association of Chiefs of Police (NJSACOP). On June 23, 2010, he was sworn in as President by Union County Prosecutor Theodore Romankow at the organizations’ 89th Annual Training Conference. NJSACOP "promotes the highest ethical and professional standards in law enforcement" according to the organization’s website and sponsors professional training and educational programs for police and law enforcement personnel. Mary M. Zimmermann, who is also a member of the College’s Board of Trustees, has been named Volunteer of the Month by SAGE Eldercare. As a volunteer, she delivers meals once or twice a week for the Meals on Wheels program and participates in Summit’s "Loaves and Fishes" food pantry at St. Teresa’s of Avila Church, sorting and bagging grocery staples for families in need. SAGE Eldercare chose to honor Zimmermann as Volunteer of the Month for July because of her passion and commitment to helping those less fortunate than herself.
