Local Rockers Join Millburn Schools Rock Event to be Held on March 19th
By Education Foundation of Millburn-Short Hills
3/5/2010

The Chatham School of Rock Street Team, including Millburn High School students Charlie Marshall and Rachel Tannenbaum, will be performing during band breaks from the featured B Street Band at the Education Foundation of Millburn-Short Hills annual "Millburn Schools Rock" fundraiser on March 19 from 7:00 – 11:00 pm at the Maplewood Country Club. "This is a great showcase for our kids" says School of Rock Music Director Art Lima. "We are a performance based music education program so we are always looking for opportunities to perform. I’m particularly enthusiastic when the kids can participate in events that support the community." The Street Team recently participated in a benefit for Haiti Earthquake Relief and has a second fundraiser for New Eyes for the Needy planned for March 6.

The B Street Band, sponsored by Geoscape Solar, a popular Bruce Springsteen tribute band, has played at many high profile local and national events. Other event sponsors include the Millburn Laser Center, The Silverstrom Group, and HSBC. Prizes will include a four week session at Meadowbrook Day Camp, hotel stays at Loews Miami Beach and the Equinox, signed sports memorabilia and tickets, fabulous jewelry, David Letterman tickets and Jimmy Fallon tickets. The silent auctions will include Disney World tickets, gift certificates to retail stores, a half-year parking space at the High School and VIP seating to certain school events. Last year’s event drew nearly 350 patrons.

The Education Foundation, run entirely by dedicated volunteers, was founded in 1993 as a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization, and raises funds for Millburn public schools through generous private donations, membership dues, grants and fundraising events. Proceeds from "Millburn Schools Rock" will go towards completing the second phase of the Communication Arts Program, providing needed upgrades to classroom technology, equipment and programs to all seven Millburn public schools. "I’m excited to be able to contribute to an event that will benefit our own schools" said Marshall.

"The recently announced cuts in state education funding makes the success of the Education Foundation’s fundraising efforts even more important" said Foundation co-president Amy Talbert. "I’m hoping we’ll have an even bigger turnout this year than last to enjoy the music, the fabulous donations we have for the silent auction and raffles and cheer on the kids".Invitations were mailed to Millburn public school families. The event is also open to the public and admission is $75.00 per person. For more information about the Education Foundation or this event, to print out invitations, or to make a donation, please log on to www.edfoundationmillburnshorthills.org or contact either of the Foundation Co-Presidents: Amy Talbert at 973-376-0090 or stonetalbert@verizon.net, or Debbie Rieder at 973-912-8636 or dlrieder@comcast.net
