Voters Head to the Polls Today

Voters head to the polls today to elect candidates and decide on issues facing their towns. Here's a quick recap of what's happening in each town:

 

BERKELEY HEIGHTS

Republicans Robert Woodruff (incumbent) and Jeanne Kingsley are running against Democrats Stephen Yellin and Jamie Divine-Cadavid.

Andy Smith of Summit is seeking election to the Union County Board of Freeholders.

MADISON

Incumbent Republican Mary-Anna Holden and Democrat and Councilman Robert Conley are running for mayor.

On the Republican team for council are Martin Barbato and Bob Landrigan.

The Democrat’s team includes Bob McDowell and Carmela Vitale. Sam Cerciello is running as a write-in candidate.

MILLBURN

Democrats Stephen Thomas and Seth Levine are squaring off against Republicans Robert Tillotson and Sari Greenberg. Tillotson, the only incumbent, is seeking his second three-year term on the governing body.

NEW PROVIDENCE

Incumbent Armand Galluccio and Dr. Robert "Bob" Robinson are both running unopposed.

 New Providence voters will decide two non-binding referendum questions on the Nov. 8 ballot.

One will ask if the borough should amend its current liquor license ordinance to establish four retail consumption licenses to allow the sale of alcoholic beverages by the glass in establishments which serve food. The second will ask if the borough should allow the use of the existing open space trust fund for improvements and maintenance of the borough's open space and recreation fields.

SOUTH ORANGE

Voters are being asked whether they think the South Orange Village trustees should be paid a stipend in a nonbinding referendum question on Tuesday.

Two other ballot questions deal with changing titles and names. One question asks whether the Board of Trustees should be renamed the Village Council and its president and trustees should be known as mayor and councilmembers. The third asks voters whether the Village of South Orange Township should simply be known as South Orange Village.

SUMMIT

Republican Ellen Dickson, Democrat Eileen Forman-Ludden and Independent Mike Vernotico are running for mayor.

Chatham voters will decide if incumbent mayor Nelson Vaughan (D) will continue on to a second term or if sitting council member Bruce Harris (R) will lead the borough into 2012.

WESTFIELD
