STANHOPE, NJ – People and businesses within the Borough of Stanhope spent the weekend celebrating for the municipality’s annual Spring Weekend.

“It’s a wonderful day,” said Stanhope’s Mayor Rosemarie Maio on Sunday, at the Spring Festival & Car Show, which ran on Sunday, and shut down most of the borough’s Main Street on Sunday from noon until 6pm.

“Everyone looks happy, we’re at capacity with vendors, lots to eat, lots at the silent auction,” Maio continued, surveying the crowds packing the street. “It’s nice to see everyone come out for something like this.”

Sponsored by the Stanhope Chamber of Commerce, Maio said, “The Chamber deserves a lot of credit.”

The silent auction benefitted the Town with a Heart Fund, a local fund that helps Stanhope residents in need.

Main Street was packed with vendors with items for sale, local organizations (Boy Scouts, Stanhope Seniors Club, Fire Department), a variety of items to eat from the grill, Pierogies and Kielbasa served up by Bell’s Mansion, live musical entertainment, bounce houses, engines from the Stanhope Fire Department, and the Forest Fire Services on display, and more.

Groups, such as the Friends of Waterloo Village were there, with information about how they raised funds for the roof restorations at the grist mill and blacksmith.

Next restoration project for the Friends of Waterloo is the Mule Bridge.

The Lake Musconetcong Community Association and, Lake Musconetcong Regional Planning Board were also there, and, the Lake Musconetcong Regional Planning Board had a tank filled with fish caught by children in the fishing contest earlier in the day, including a Catfish, Perch, and Sunfish. Passersby could see the fish, and also samples of the Water Chestnut invasive species to educate the public about what the lake community contends with.

The weekend was part of a series of celebrations, kicked off with a pig roast at Shakey Jake’s on Friday to benefit the Fire Department and Ambulance Squad, and the Townwide Garage Sale on Saturday.
